“A well-tied tie is the first serious step in life.” ~Oscar Wilde~

So fitting…  Over the weekend, our 15 year old son was asking how to tie a cool looking knot for this necktie.  The reason behind this was because of having to attend the Academic Decathlon in Phoenix. Although he doesn’t know how to tie a regular tie he did learn how to tie an Eldredge knot.  🙂  He definitely inspired me to look up different ways to knot a tie and here are my top 5 knots.

There are the common knots out there like:

The Half Windsor Knot

The Pratt Knot

The Small Knot

The Four In Hand Knot

There are so many more out there and if I keep going, I won’t stop. So those are just to name a few and if you want to learn more about these knots, I found this article at Fashion Network Seattle.  It’s a great read about how the tie came about and how to tie these “not so complicated” knots.

A few more pointers on what type of collar goes with what knot…

Point → Four In Hand

Button down collar → Half Windsor

Medium spread → Half Windsor

Spread collar → Pratt Knot
