Tell us about Live Event Artist Dave.

Growing up in New York City, Dave was inspired by drawing local landscapes, which led him to set up his easel and paint from life. Now in Arizona, he has worked with numerous vendors in the event and wedding industry. Much of his work comes from word of mouth and referrals from fellow vendors. Dave’s greatest passion is painting weddings and events in real-time, engaging with people as they witness his art come to life.

Interview Questions:

How did you get started in the wedding business?

I’m originally from NYC and have been in Arizona since ’94. Art has always been my life growing up. About 10 years ago, a family member gave me the opportunity to paint a wedding, and I found that I loved it, especially being in front of many people while they watch me paint. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to work on various events, including sports celebrity engagements, corporate events, and many weddings.

What makes your work different from other businesses in the field?

My live event art creates a forever keepsake of their special day, long after the food, music, and flowers are gone!

Why do you enjoy working with weddings?

My artistry has let me become part of many people’s lives I never knew!

What was the most difficult situation faced with a client and how was it resolved?

The worst situation I had was when a wedding ceremony was all set up outside in a beautiful mountain setting in Sedona. Just as the bride and groom were about to exchange vows, it started to rain. Everything was moved inside, but I painted their ceremony as if it was outside in the beautiful setting. The newlyweds were so happy I captured their wedding day on canvas as they dreamed!

From a vendor’s perspective, what’s the best piece of advice you can give to engaged couples?

My advice to engaged couples is that bigger isn’t always better for weddings, and it always helps to get input from those you trust in planning your wedding day.

What or who motivates you?

I’m motivated by creating something of beauty in real-time, leaving others amazed by how it unfolds before their eyes!

What do you do when not working?

When I’m not creating art, I volunteer giving art lessons to cancer patients and intellectually challenged adults. I love helping those in need.

What would we be surprised to learn about you?

My life is pretty simple, but I used to own a sign company when I lived in NYC, doing hand lettering and neon!
