Typical bridal showers include wedding related games and gifts for the bride to be. For a more old – fashioned alternative to the typical bridal shower, many ladies are now throwing an afternoon tea party for the guest of honor at the shower.
When organizing an afternoon tea party for the purpose of a bridal shower the décor for the party calls for a mixture of older, vintage and a few touches of modern pieces. Rather than using a standard table linen napkin, it is better to choose a handkerchief for each invited guest. Using a wide pallet of colors can help bring the décor together. Serving antique China plates and other pieces should be coordinated with the chosen handkerchiefs. Fresh flowers add the finishing touch to the décor for an afternoon tea party. Rather than using traditional flower pots it is more appropriate to use tea canisters.
In keeping with the theme of the bridal shower, each guest can later make their own tea to take home as memento of the celebration. A basket of loose tea in various flavors will give bridal shower guests a selection that allows them to customize their tea to their liking.
French macaroons and truffles as well as sugar cookies are something that should be included in the menu for any afternoon tea party. These can serve as dessert after a wonderfully prepared variety of breads and tea sandwiches. Afternoon tea parties traditionally was never intended to replace dinner. It was to fill in the gap between lunch and dinner when dinner was served at around 8 p.m. A total of three courses are standard for this type of tea party.
To do this type of party justice, it is expected that the first course of the party is served to guests promptly upon the party starting. For the second course the meals are to be plated before the guests see them, just as they would be at a wedding.
Class and elegance are the two most important aspects of any tea party and are what set them apart from other tea parties. An afternoon tea party thrown during a bridal shower is one that should pamper the guest of honor and make her feel like royalty prior to her wedding.
